The National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) has launched ‘Class Room Tryout Programme’ across the country to justify utility of the current textbook syllabus, sources at the board said.They said that the curriculum board has already formed 70 high-powered committees to find out lapses and gaps of the existing syllabus in the primary and secondary levels.

“For the first time, class room tryout programme has included the country’s secondary level schooling to ensure formulation of time-bound and effective curriculum”, NCTB chairman Prof Shafiqur Rahman said.

He told the Financial Express that the committees would conduct study over the academic curriculum through talking with the related teachers and the authorities will bring changes if recommended.

“In the developed countries, the authorities concerned provide funds for conducting in-depth research over the formulated curriculum in order to develop the existing syllabus”, the professor said.

He added that in Bangladesh limited scope is there to conduct such kind of research over the crucial issue which is the pre-requisite to the national development.

“However, we’ve launched the tryout programmes across the country and they will submit the analysed report by end of the academic year”, he noted.

Regarding the distribution of the free textbooks among the primary and secondary level students, the chairman said they have completed the distribution successfully.

“We’ve completed distribution of all the textbooks across the country despite political volatility,” he said adding that they had found it very much difficult to reach the textbooks to the students.

He said that a total of 71 book carrying trucks had been destroyed during the nationwide opposition movement centring the 10th general election held on January 5, 2014.

The professor denied any shortage of textbooks and delay in distribution as the authorities had printed over 10 per cent additional number of books.
