মোহাম্মদ শাহ আলম ১৯৫৮ সালে ৩০শে মে প্টুয়াখালি জেলার বাউফল উপজেলায় কনকদিয়া গ্রামে জন্মগ্রহন করেন । তাঁর পিতার নাম তাজেম আলি মৃধা এবং মাতার নাম ছাহেরা বেগম। পরিবারে ৫ভাই এবং ৩বোন । ভাই বোনদের মধ্যে তিনি চতুর্থ।
তিনি ১৯৭৩ সালে বিজ্ঞান বিভাগে কনকদিযা স্যার সলিমুল্লাহ হাইস্কুল থেকে এসএসসি এবং ১৯৭৫ সালে মানবিক বিভাগে পটুয়াখালী কলেজ থেকে এইচএসসি কৃতিত্বের সঙ্গে উর্তীর্ণ হন ।
তিনি জাহাঙ্গীরনগর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে ১৯৮০ এবং ৮১ সালে ইংরেজি বিষয় এ অনার্স এবং মাস্টার্স ডিগ্রী অর্জন করেন ।

মোহাম্মদ শাহ আলম ২৬ বছর ধরে বাংলাদেশের বিভিন্ন জেলায় নির্বাচন অফিসার হিসেবে বিভিন্ন পদে দায়িত্ব পালন করেছেন। ২০০৭ সাল থেকে ছবিসহ ভোটার তালিকা তৈরি, পরিচয়পত্র প্রদান, জাতীয় পর্যায় থেকে স্থানীয় পর্যায় পর্যন্ত বিভিন্ন নির্বাচন পরিচালনা, বিভিন্ন নির্বাচনের জন্য ভোট কেন্দ্র নির্ধারণ ও উন্নত করা, ভোটগ্রহণ কর্মী ও ভোটার নিবন্ধন কর্মী নিয়োগ করা, ভোটগ্রহণ কর্মী ও নিবন্ধন দলকে প্রশিক্ষণ দেওয়া; বিভিন্ন সংস্থার মধ্যে সমন্বিত প্রশিক্ষণ ও সভার আয়োজনে তিনি ছিলেন অগ্রভাগে।

জাতীয় পর্যায় থেকে স্থানীয় সংস্থা নির্বাচন পর্যন্ত বিভিন্ন নির্বাচন পরিচালনা, ভোটার তালিকা তৈরি, জাতীয় পরিচয়পত্র এবং স্মার্ট আইডি কার্ড বিতরণ ও তত্ত্বাবধান, নির্বাচন পরিচালনায় তার অবদান অনস্বীকার্য ।
নিজের মেধা ও পরিকল্পনায় নির্বাচন সংক্রান্ত ডাটা সংরক্ষন ও প্রতিফলনে তিনি সমধিক পরিচিত হয়ে উঠেন।
মোহাম্মদ শাহ আলম জাতীয় আন্তর্জাতিকক্ষেত্রে বহু সভা , সেমিনারে এবং প্রতিষ্ঠানে দায়িত্ব পালন করেছেন। এগুলোর মধ্যে বিশেষ উল্লেখযোগ্য হলোঃ
১৯৯৩ সালে United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia এ International polling officer এ হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন।
২০০৪ সালে শ্রীলংকার Election commission of Srilanka এই প্রতিষ্ঠানে আন্তর্জাতিক নির্বাচন পর্যবেক্ষক পদে দায়িত্ব পালন।
২০১০ সালে United Nation Mission in Sudan এ UNV Training officer এবং public outreach officer হিসেবে কাজ করা।
২০১৪ সালে UNDP Afganistan Organization এ UNV vote Audit Adviser হিসেবে কাজ করা ।
বর্তমানে তিনি জাতিসংঘ মিশন সোমালিয়াতে Electoral Specialist হিসাবে কর্মরত রয়েছেন।
একজন মেধাবী বাঙালি হিসেবে তাঁর এই অবদান বাংলাদেশের নতুন প্রজন্মের জন্য অনুকরনীয় ও অনুপ্রেরণার উৎস হিসেবে চির ভাস্বর হয়ে থাকবে ।
Biography of Mohammad Shah Alam :

Mohammad Shah Alam was born on May 30, 1958 in Konakdia village in Baufal upazila of Patuakhali district. His father’s name is Tajem Ali Mridha and mother’s name is Sahera Begum.

5 brothers and 3 sisters in the family. He is the fourth among brothers and sisters.
He passed SSC from Kankdiya Sir Salimullah High School in science department in 1973 and HSC in humanities department from Patuakhali College in 1975.
He obtained Honors and Masters degree in English from Jahangirnagar University in 1980 and 1981.

Mohammad Shah Alam served in different positions as election officer in different districts of Bangladesh for 26 years. Since 2007, preparing voter lists with photographs, issuing identity cards, conducting various elections from national to local levels, setting up and improving polling stations for various elections, recruiting polling staff and voter registration staff, training polling staff and registration teams; He was at the forefront of organizing coordinated training and meetings between various organizations.

Conducting various elections from national level to local body elections, preparation of voter list, distribution and supervision of national identity cards and smart ID cards, his contribution in conducting elections is undeniable.
He became well known for his talent and planning in collecting and reflecting election related data.

In 2004, he served as an international election observer in the Election Commission of Sri Lanka.
Working as UNV Training officer and public outreach officer at United Nation Mission in Sudan in 2010.
Working as UNV vote Audit Adviser in UNDP Afghanistan Organization in 2014.
He is currently working as an Electoral Specialist in the United Nations Mission in Somalia.
